The music of the 90s can be summed up as eclectic and featured a mixture of grunge, heavy metal, rock, pop, rap, country and R&B.
Grunge bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, and Foo Fighters dominated the decade and continue to captivate audiences, proving their timeless appeal. Heavy metal didn’t disappear and legendary acts like Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, and Aerosmith smashed through trends to become iconic stadium bands.
The rise of feminism led to multi-platinum singer-songwriters such as Sarah McLachlan,

Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow, Jewel, and Tracy Chapman soaring up the pop charts. The era catered to all generations, with teen-pop sensations like the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera captivating the younger crowd, while Kenny G, Whitney Houston, Michael Bolton, and Céline Dion enchanted more mature listeners.

Garth Brooks made history with his 1991 album, Ropin’ The Wind, as the first country artist to hit No.1 on the Billboard 200 album and paved the way for newcomers like Billy Ray Cyrus and Tim McGraw. Established stars such as George Strait, Reba McEntire, Alan Jackson, Vince Gill, and Clint Black soared to mainstream fame. In 1995, Shania Twain’s blockbuster album, The Woman In Me, propelled country-pop into the spotlight as a vibrant, female-led genre, with Dixie Chicks, Faith Hill, and LeAnn Rimes leading the charge.
Hip-hop was a dynamic force, spawning a variety of subgenres with artists like Arrested Development, Queen Latifah, and rappers such as Salt-N-Pepa, MC Hammer, and Will Smith making waves on the pop charts! The 90s, a little bit of everything, that had something of appeal to almost everyone!
